Notre Dame's production of "Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding" opens Thursday.
The legendary off-Broadway hit, "Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding," will be playing from April 19-21 in the Notre Dame Cafetorium. It will feature our happy, eponymous couple exchanging vows and dancing the night away in our very own school cafe. With added lights, wedding decor, live band and a cast of zany characters, you will hardly believe where you are.
With as many laughs as there are Italian stereotypes, this big, fat Italian wedding will have you feeling like you are a member of the family — and thankful that you’re not! The evening includes an Italian buffet dinner and wedding cake.
“This show is unique from anything I have ever been a part of or witnessed," said NDP junior Gabriella Bendsten who plays Sister Albert Maria (Tina’s cousin). “Every night of performance will be unique and cannot be re-created. While the audience gets to sit down and watch parts of the show, it also calls on them to interact with the show in ways that are not possible in regular theatre.”
Featuring a cast and crew of sixty-one students, this production is directed by Meredith Gifford.
“I chose this show in January 2017 and since we have been working on improvisation for years, the students were ready," she said. "Last fall, I was actually cast in the Detroit company of Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding and have performed with them. It is such a complicated show and I’m glad that I was able to experience it firsthand.”
Notre Dame senior Alex Cousins, who plays Tony, adds, “Audiences should come see this show because they will have one of the best times of their lives. If you want an evening to just laugh out loud and have a good time, this is definitely the show for you.”
Senior Isabella Fandino, who plays a bridesmaid in the play, concurs.
“When else are you going get the chance to go to a wedding in a high school cafeteria, with guaranteed chaos and fun?" she asked. "Come to Tony and Tina's Wedding!"
