Twelve members of the Notre Dame community, including teachers, alumni and administrators, ran as part of last weekend's Third Coast Relay (Run the Mitten), which is a 208-mile non-stop relay run from Holland, Mich., to Traverse City.

Notre Dame's 12 raised more than $3,000 ahead of the race for "The Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund."
According to NDPMA Director of Admissions Kathleen Offer, team "ND12" started the race Saturday morning at 6 a.m. in Holland and finished the race on Sunday, 34 hours and 43 minutes later, in Traverse City. "There were 36 legs to the race, covering 208 miles, overnight, non-stop," she said.
Middle-school Vice Principal Brandon Jezdimir came up with the idea of doing this race, Offer said, and she said they all thought they could make it more meaningful by raising money for a charity. "We discovered The Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund, which is a local Michigan charity benefiting wounded soldiers and the families of soldiers who paid the ultimate price," she said.
They held a silent auction in early June and also collected donations online. Offer said they still are accepting donations, so anyone interested in contributing can go to socialply.com, plug in the name of a team member and make a donation. Or, Offer said, a check made out to The Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund can be dropped off to one of the ND12 team members.
