It's Irish Week! The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame Preparatory and Marist Academy once again will observe "Irish Week," a four-day celebration of the school's Irish heritage/nickname. The tradition was initiated years ago at Harper Woods Notre Dame, a school managed by the Marist Fathers and Brothers, who also currently sponsor NDPMA in Pontiac.
Irish Week 2018 includes special activities, liturgies, hall decorations and concludes with Wednesday-Thursday athletic-and-skills competitions among the grades called the Irish Games, which pit class against class in a series of contests that have ranged in the past from Balloon Stomp and Duct-Tape Challenge to Plunger Relay and Arm-Wrestling.
All three divisions of Notre Dame participate in the festivities.
The overall theme this week in the upper division is "movie sagas" (Harry Potter, Back to the Future, Jurassic Park and Star Wars) and for the middle, it's TV shows (SpongeBob SquarePants, Stranger Things, The Office, Grey's Anatomy and Saved by the Bell).
Last year, one of the special Irish Week contests was the Sing-Off, which pitted five singers from the four classes in Notre Dame’s upper division against each other to see who gets judged the best.
Go Irish!
