Killer Bees prevail in Southfield

The Killer Bees had a very successful weekend at the Southfield district competition for the first 2018 FIRST Power Up competition of the season.

Showcasing a robot with a unique drive train and an innovative lift system, the team ranked third of 40 at the end of qualification matches and was asked by the number-one team, FRC 3538, the Yellow Jackets, of Avondale High School to form an alliance for the playoffs.

Also invited to the alliance was FRC 5467, the RoboTractors, from Fordson High School in Dearborn. These three teams formed the number-one alliance and were undefeated in the playoff matches, earning a the district championship banner.

The win extended the Killer Bees streak of taking their opening tournament for the eighth year in a row.

The Bees earned the prestigious Chairman’s Award, automatically qualifying them for the Michigan state championship at Saginaw Valley State University in April.

The team now looks forward to their next competition at Milford High School on March 15-17.

Way to go, Bees!
