Krista Studier, a sixth grader in Notre Dame’s middle division, received a first place in the art contest as part of the 2017 Oakland County Fair held July 7 through 16 at the Springfield Oaks County Park in Davisburg.
Studier’s first place came against other artists in her age bracket in the mixed media category. Her artwork also earned the sixth-highest award for all age brackets at the fair.
According to Michelle Zimmerman, who is the art teacher in the lower division, Studier created her artwork, a graphic self portrait, in art class as a fifth grader last school year.
“Krista took a chance and decided to enter the piece in the summer fair and it certainly paid off,” Zimmerman said. She said Studier also loves animals and hopes to be a vet someday.
“She’s a member of the Bowers 4-H Club in Bloomfield and also received a first-place ribbon for her ‘novice notebook’ in goat showmanship and a third place for her presentation at the same event,” Zimmerman said. “Everyone here is very proud of her achievement. Krista is proof that creative people can have many, many interests!”
