Middle schoolers clean up on national Spanish exam

Like Notre Dame’s upper division, students from the school’s middle division scored big in the most recent 2017 National Spanish Examinations, bringing home 42 awards, including eight gold medals. 

“I am so proud of the students this year,” said middle-division Spanish teacher Marisol Aguilar. “They really improved a lot!” 

Last year, middle-division students earned a total of 24 awards from the exam, with one gold medal.

Gold medal winners: Luka Cvetkovic 6th grade, Mia Daher 6th grade, Julia Housey 6th grade, Tommy Marvin 6th grade, John Milback 6th grade, Sydney Myers 6th grade, Madeline Lawrence 6th grade, and Brooke Cousins 7th grade.

Silver medal winners: Katrina Khan 6th grade, Peyton Schindler 6th grade, Marisa Ricci 7th grade, Jeronimo Ballesty, 7th grade, Jack Lintol 8th grade, and Rachel Rook 8th grade.

Bronze medal winners: Jack Anderson 6th grade, Payton Beckman 6th grade, Leo Gemelli 6th grade, Lauren Heming 6th grade, Jackson Krieger 6th grade, Taylor Myers 6th grade, Jackson Plas 6th grade, Aaron Palardy 6th grade, Kaitlyn Heaman 7th grade, Anthony Zaleski 7th grade, Lars Boehme 8th grade, Ethan Kocheril 8th grade, Amishi Mahajan 8th grade, Charlotte Milback 8th grade and Nikhil Simon 8th grade.

About the National Spanish Examinations
The National Spanish Examinations are online, standardized assessment tools for Grades 6 -12, given voluntarily by about 4000 teachers throughout the United States to measure performance (interpretive communication) and achievement of students who are studying Spanish as a second language. The National Spanish Examinations are the most widely used tests of Spanish in the United States. In the spring of 2016, a total of 169,697 students registered for the National Spanish Examinations. The National Spanish Examinations are recognized by many administrative and teaching associations and organizations at the local, state and national levels. The National Association of Secondary School Principals has placed this program on the NASSP National Advisory List of Contests and Activities for 2016-2017.
