On Sept. 12, St. Michael the Archangel Church in Convent, Louisiana, celebrated 150 years of Marist ministry in the United States. The 5 p.m. Mass was followed by a reception hosted by the Society of Mary and Marist Laity, a group of lay ministers in the River Parishes (Louisiana) cluster of St. Michael, St. Joseph in Paulina and Sacred Heart in Gramercy.
St. Michael was the first Marist parish in the U.S.
Fr. Chris Decker put together an audio tribute to the Convent event and to 150 years of Marist ministry in the United States. It was broadcast on the "Wake Up!" morning program on Catholic Radio in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and along the Gulf Coast. Listen here.
On October 19 and 20, the Notre Dame community in Pontiac is celebrating the Marist 150th anniversary as well as anniversaries for Notre Dame Preparatory School, Notre Dame High School and Pontiac Catholic High School. More information on the Notre Dame event is here.
