Last Saturday, the NDP men’s and women’s cross country teams participated in the Oakland County Championships at Kensington Metropark. Competing on the most difficult course in the state and amongst the most challenging competition, the Irish runners represented Notre Dame Prep extremely well.
The women’s team continued its fine success by placing 11th overall, but was the highest finishing Division II team in the race. Junior Lauren McGrath (20:23) placed 21st and earned All Oakland County honors. Also contributing to the team’s placing was junior Hunter Williams (21:43), sophomore Ellie Wallace (22:05), sophomore Erika Wiest (22:52), junior Erin Herrgott (23:15), junior Cristine Scheer (23:23) and senior Haley Hershey (24:17).
The men’s team finished 25th and was 2nd amongst Division II schools. Sophomore Nathan Mylenek (17:58) led all Irish runners in only his third race of the season followed by freshman Brendan Fraser (18:06), senior Nathan Rutila (18:46), sophomore Aidan Shurig (18:48), senior Jere Neill (19:05), junior Josh Fullerton (19:12) and sophomore Carter Slunick (19:42).
The teams will go for a win at their next race, the CHSL Jamboree #3 on Tuesday, October 8, at Lutheran High North.
