New musical, which features a talented ensemble of Notre Dame students and many of Cole Porter’s best-known songs, opens this week.
The age-old tale of "boy-meets-girl" and the complications that ensue intrigue every audience, and no musical puts it on stage better than the classic, "Anything Goes.” Based on a book by Guy Bolton and P.G. Wodehouse, this show is an amusing story wrapped around one of Cole Porter’s magical scores. Songs include It’s De-Lovely, Friendship, I Get A Kick Out Of You, Anything Goes, You’re The Top and Blow, Gabriel, Blow. It’s a wonder how all the romances are sorted out and disaster is averted aboard the magical ship where "Anything Goes!”
Musical director David Fazzini, producer Meredith Gifford, orchestra pit director Joe Martin and choreographer Allison Kaufman are bringing to the stage this weekend a highly talented musical ensemble and cast that includes leads Jacob Mancinotti (senior) as Billy Crocker, Mina Kambakhsh (senior) as Reno Sweeny, Dana Pangori (senior) as Hope Harcourt, and Francesco Fregoli (junior) as Moonface Martin.
For the past several years, Notre Dame Prep’s theatre troupe has increasingly made their mark in the high school musical circuit to the point where they have outgrown their facilities and hired a producer to oversee their projects.
"We are now attracting talent that rivals all of the big public high schools in the area that have been known for their professional-caliber shows for years," said producer Gifford, who graduated from Notre Dame Prep in 2002. "To see first hand how far we've come since I attended here is really amazing. I can't tell you how proud I am of these kids and of the entire program."
"We did this same play about 10 years ago, but it was in our cafetorium,” Fazzini said. “It will be great for the audience to get to see this show in a real theatre. The sets, costumes and talented students are going to blow you away. These kids are putting themselves one-hundred-percent out there and our relationship with Avondale High School makes it all possible."
The show takes place Thursday through Saturday, November 17–19 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, November 20 at 4 p.m. at the Avondale High School Performing Arts Center, 2800 Waukegan St., Auburn Hills, MI 48326.
