Notre Dame girls soccer coach Jim Stachura has been named a Regional Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and becomes eligible for National Coach of the Year.
The Regional Coach of the Year Award has three separate categories: private/parochial, small public/Division II and large public/Division I. Stachura takes the honor for private schools.
The Irish girls varsity soccer team claimed its first MHSAA state title in program history last spring with an overtime win over Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern.
Notre Dame (21-1-3) finished last season on an 18-game winning streak with key wins over #1-ranked DeWitt, #4-ranked Marian #8-ranked Warren Regina and #14-ranked Fenton in postseason play.
