More than 130 Notre Dame students perform at Oakland University, raise money for Child Fund International.
In a major concert appearance held Monday, October 17, to a standing-room-only crowd at Oakland University, the Notre Dame choir program, which included the middle-division choir, performed “Music of the World.”
"It was a great first show of the year for our choirs,” said David Fazzini, director of choirs at Notre Dame. “I’m proud of the hard work they did, especially considering that most of the music was sung in foreign languages. I feel that the concert provided something new and interesting for everyone."
Six ensembles from Notre Dame put on quite a performance at OU’s Varner Hall, which has seen recent concerts by Broadway star Natalie Weiss, the Shanghai Quartet, pianist Angela Cheng, The Gryphon Trio, international cabaret artist Sharron Matthews and jazz violinist Regina Carter.
Fazzini also said that even though the concert was free, the choirs managed to raise $1200 for children's charity organization, Child Fund International at the event.
“This ws a Notre Dame choir concert only,” Fazzini said. “We had our Freshmen Choir, Women's Chorus, the Irishmen, our Chamber Choir, the Ninth Hour Choir, Sisters in Song, Band of Brothers, and a special appearance by our 6th-Grade Chorus.”
The hour-long concert featured musical performances and songs originating in Estonia, Serbia, Africa, China and the United States, among others. A video excerpt from Monday's concert is available below.
