Six student artists at Notre Dame Prep earned awards from the Southeastern Michigan Region of the Scholastic Art competition. Over 5,000 pieces of art were entered in this year's competition and NDP earned three Gold Keys, the highest category of the annual art awards, which were initiated in 1923 by New York City-based Scholastic Corporation. The Southeastern Michigan Region is sponsored by Detroit's College for Creative Studies.
The students picked up their awards at a special ceremony held February 11 at the Detroit Film Theatre.

The Southeastern Michigan Region of the Scholastic Art Awards is supported by an advisory board of volunteer art teachers. This region receives more than 5,000 works of art and 300 portfolios from middle school and high school students, which are then adjudicated and selected for Honorable Mentions, Silver and Gold Key Awards, American Vision nominations, and Best of Show Portfolios.
The exhibit is held annually at the College for Creative Studies. Approximately 1,000 works of art are displayed in this exhibit throughout all four levels of the Walter B. Ford II Building. In 2014, the award ceremony will be held at the historic Detroit Film Theater at the Detroit Institute of Arts.
