Notre Dame students in John Smith and Brian Perry’s A.P. Psychology classes are going through their annual “sensation/perception” lab, which takes students from one demonstration to another for two days as they experience different sensations and then explore their perceptions of the sensations.
According to Smith, the students learn about how external stimuli are internalized by their senses and how their sensations influence their perceptions and how their perceptions and expectations can influence their sensations.
Similar to those found in college-level psychology courses, the lab at NDP considers sensation and perception from several perspectives: physiological, psychophysical, ecological, motivational, and computational.
