Choir director to sing in prestigious concert at Detroit cathedral

Eric Taylor, who is Notre Dame’s middle division choir director, will be singing later this month in the Archdiocese of Detroit’s Cathedral Cultural Series presentation of 'Monteverdi 1610 Vespers" with Audivi, a professional choir based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They will be joined by the Dark Horse Consort, a renowned early music ensemble that performs music from the Renaissance and Baroque.

Taylor is encouraging Notre Dame students and their parents to attend the event.

“Because the cathedral is the mother church of the Archdiocese of Detroit, this is an amazing opportunity for all in the Notre Dame community to visit the Cathedral,” said Taylor. “This concert will be the first performance of the Monteverdi Vespers in Detroit on period instruments (instruments from the 16th and 17th centuries), and the acoustics are beautiful.”

Taylor said the motto he always follows when it comes to his own choir students and in his own chorus experiences is to follow St. Paul’s instructions to the Ephesians: “Make melody in our hearts to the Lord.”

“What a way to experience this by going to this concert,” Taylor said.

The concert will take place on Sunday, April 24, 2016, at 3 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament (9844 Woodward, Detroit). General admission is $30 and student admission is only $15.00, according to Taylor.

About Audivi
Founded in 2013, Audivi is a professional vocal octet based in Ann Arbor, Mich., that harks back to a time when unaccompanied singing ensembles were considered the highest form of music in the world. Audivi focuses on presenting rarely heard Renaissance masterpieces and premiering new works by modern composers, as well as choral music from all eras. Its members have sung with professional vocal ensembles around the world, and have appeared on America's Got Talent. Audivi has performed at many events in the Detroit and Ann Arbor areas, including the Friday Night Live series at the Detroit Institute of Arts. In June 2015, Audivi visited the East Coast as the headlining professional vocal ensemble for the New England Regional American Guild of Organists convention. Concerts this year include a brief Midwest tour in March, and upcoming, the Monteverdi's 1610 Vespers in Detroit in April 2016.
