On Wednesday, January 20, Notre Dame computer science teacher Katrina Palushaj took a group of Notre Dame juniors and seniors from her CAD class to the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS)-sponsored 2016 Education Day at Cobo Center in Detroit.
The Education Day began originally at the 2005 NAIAS as an opportunity for schools to participate in a positive and valuable educational experience at one of the world's biggest auto shows.
The leadership of NAIAS said the event is more customized this year as the experience is now based on the classes that are attending.
“Education Day allows students an up-close and personal opportunity to experience exciting vehicles and technologies that will shape the future of our industry, in a manner that is informative and educational,” said Paul Sabatini, 2016 NAIAS chairman. “Our goal is to inspire these students to become involved in automotive and help steer this industry into the future.”
Palushaj said the NDP students also sat in for a few workshops at Education Day, including the “Wallet Wise” course offered by Ally Financial, which teaches financial education basics in the areas of budget, credit, banking, investing and financing.
“The Wallet Wise courses that Ally offered at NAIAS Education Day provide a great opportunity for young people to learn about basic financial concepts and money skills in an exciting setting,” said Gina Proia, Ally’s chief communications officer and head of corporate citizenship. “Building a foundation of knowledge about saving, budgeting, credit and investing can help students prepare and plan for future financial goals.”
The students also toured the show floor at NAIAS.
