Notre Dame eighth-grader Bettina Winkler spent the weekend in Germany where she bested her age group by far in the 60-meter dash. Competing at an event sponsored by LG Stadtwerke München at the Olympic Park in Munich, Winkler ran the fastest time in the 14-and-under group and her time also beat all female runners 20 years old and under.
Winkler has dual citizenship with the U.S. and Germany and typically gets back to Germany a couple of times each year. She is a member of the Elite Track Club in Germany and is on the radar in that country for possible inclusion on a future German Olympic team.
Last year, Winkler competed in the German Bavarian (Indoor) Championships in Munich and broke both a personal and German record in the 60-meter dash.
