The Catholic High School League Cross Country championships were held Saturday on a cold, rainy day at Kensington Metropark. This very hilly course is known as the most challenging in the state due its extremely demanding terrain.
Sophomore Nathan Mylenek, junior Lauren McGrath, and junior Hunter Williams came away with All-Catholic honors. Competing in the Division I and II races, all three runners placed among the top 15 with Mylenek (17:11) finishing sixth in the men’s race and McGrath (20:39) and Williams (21:33) finishing fourth and fourteenth, respectively, in the women’s race.
As a team, the Notre Dame women finished third overall thanks not only to McGrath’s and Williams’ high places, but also due to outstanding efforts from sophomores Ellie Wallace (22:10) and Hannah Byrd (22:30), and junior Savannah Pfeffer (22:35).
The men’s team finished seventh for the day. Other than Mylenek, contributing to the team result were freshman Brenden Fraser (18:12), junior Joshua Fullerton (18:26), sophomore Aidan Shurig (18:34) and senior Nathan Rutila (19:04).
The teams now get ready for the MHSAA Division II Region 16 race, taking place on Friday, October 25, at Algonac High School.
