Soccer Takes District Opener in PKs

After 100 minutes was not enough time to decide a winner the Notre Dame Boys Varsity Soccer team topped Ortonville Brandon 4-1 in penalty kicks to take their MHSAA District opener 2-1 and advance to the next game.

The Irish converted on all four of their shootout attempts with goals coming from Tyson Lance, Nick Evans, Oscar Guardado and Mitch Morisette and goalkeeper Will Baldwin stopped two of three penalty kicks to help lead Notre Dame to the win.

Brandon got on the board just 4:56 game as they won a battle on a loose ball in the box following a free kick and found the back of the net.  Despite constant pressure, the Irish were unable to find the back of the net in the first half.  With 23 minutes remaining in the game Nick Evans would tie the game following a free kick by Peter Kochanski.

Each side had numerous scoring opportunities to grab the lead but Baldwin (8 saves) and Brandon goalkeeper Benjamin Grycza (11 saves) kept both teams from scoring the game-winner in regulation and the 20 minutes of overtime.
