Championship week in the Catholic League will feature a number of Notre Dame teams and individuals this year. Make sure to come out and support the Irish as we celebrate the many accomplishments of Notre Dame on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.
The Boys and Girls Cross Country teams will head to the CHSL Championship meet on Saturday morning at Stony Creek Metropark (4300 Main Park Drive, Shelby Charter Township, MI 48316). The Girls Varsity race begins at 10:00 (JV at 11:00) and the Boys Varsity race begins at 10:30 (JV at 11:30).
Several Notre Dame Marist teams and student-athletes will be honored during the CYO Prep Bowl Championship beginning at 10:00 at Ford Field. Julian Lee and Theresa Carrier will be receiving CYO Scholar Athlete awards and Coach McLaughlin’s 4/5 grade Volleyball team, Coach Gillis’ 6th grade Volleyball team, and Coach Guest's Cross Country team will be recognized as division champions.
Following the CYO Championship game the Notre Dame Dance team will perform alongside several other CHSL schools. In addition, seven Notre Dame teachers will be recognized for their years of service to Catholic schools. Dr. James Doyle and Cathy Zuccaro (15 years), Jamie Rodda, Marty Simmonds, and Dan Staniszewski (10 years), and Katrina Palushaj and Brian Perry will all be honored at this year’s Prep Bowl.
At 1:00 the Varsity Football team takes on Detroit Loyola in the CHSL Prep Bowl at Ford Field. The Irish, currently ranked #3 in Division 4, will look to avenge their only loss of the season to this point, a 42-17 defeat to the Bulldogs on September 25th. The Notre Dame Band will be performing the National Anthem prior to the game and will also be performing at halftime. At halftime, 26 total Notre Dame students will also be recognized as Scholastic All-Catholic winners. Following the 4:00 game between Our Lady of the Lakes and Riverview Gabriel Richard, there will be a 50-year reunion celebration to honor the Notre Dame Class of 1965 team.
On Monday evening, the Notre Dame Volleyball team will compete in their third consecutive CHSL Championship match as the Irish travel to Madonna University to take on Ann Arbor Fr. Gabriel Richard in a matchup that features the #1 and #4 ranked teams in Class B. The match will begin at 7:00.
