The Notre Dame Varsity Football team moved to 2-0 on the season following a 42-22 win over Muskegon Catholic Central.
The Irish took a 21-10 lead into halftime, scoring three times on fourth down passing plays in Crusader territory. Jacob Bendtsen threw first half touchdown passes to Ryan Cueny (36 yards), Clayton Bone (32 yards) and Cueny once again (nine yards) to provide the scoring for Notre Dame.
The Irish ground game took over in the second half as Notre Dame extended its lead to 35-16 after three quarters. Bendtsen added a 30-yard rushing touchdown and Connor Gaeschke scored from 32-yards out in the quarter. Gaeschke would put the game away in the fourth quarter, adding a 43-yard rushing touchdown to close the scoring for the Irish.
The Notre Dame defense forced three turnovers in the game as Caleb Webb and Josh Edmonds both had interceptions and Nalin Fox recovered a fumble.
On the evening Gaeschke carried 30 times for 203 yards and two touchdowns, the fourth most rushing yards in a game in school history. Bendtsen threw for 179 yards and three touchdowns while Cueny hauled in four catches for 75 yards and two scores.
