Notre Dame Prep softball rebounds after first losses with Troy Athens tournament win

The Pontiac Notre Dame Prep softball team made more errors against Allen Park Cabrini on Tuesday, April 21 than in its first 12 games combined.

The losses in the doubleheader moved Cabrini into a tie for first place with Notre Dame Prep (15-2, 8-2) in the Catholic High School League AA Division.

The Monarchs added two more wins to claim the top spot with wins over Riverview Gabriel Richard two days later.

Hanna Bullard went 3 for 3 in Game 1 against Cabrini and was 4 of 6 overall.

"Now there is no room for error," Notre Dame coach Betty Wroubel said. "The cushion has gone away from us. Losing (the doubleheader) was critical and we have to play tough."

Wroubel's team responded by winning the Troy Athens Relays invitational. Notre Dame defeated Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest 11-0 in the first round, Warren Mott 12-0 in the semifinals and 7-6 over host Athens in the championship.

"I am blessed with some great kids and parents that enables a coach to have so much success," Wroubel said. "I'm and old school coach and I demand a lot from the kids and the parents allow me to do that. Not all coaches are allowed that luxury."

Micaela Gleason earned two wins in the tournament and is 14-2 on the season. Bullard, Hannah Antosz and Kacey Edmonds each hit home runs against Mott. Edmonds finished 3 for 3 with three RBIs in her varsity debut. (MLive.com, April 28, 2015)
