Notre Dame Heads West to Play Vicksburg, Mattawan

The Notre Dame Boys Varsity Lacrosse hit the road to the West side of the state to take on Vicksburg and Mattawan. Both games were extremely competitive from beginning to end, with multiple lead changes throughout. Unfortunately, the Irish couldn’t overcome some late penalties and lost both games, 8-6 to Vicksburg and 9-7 to Mattawan.

Against Vicksburg, Austin Grief won 11 of 14 faceoffs which helped the offense win the time of possession battle. Defenseman Andrew Romzick (four ground balls) and Andrew McGhee (two ground balls) led the Irish. Leading the offense was Max Stowe with three goals and two assists, Will Caton with a goal and an assist  and Matt Gaynor and Austin Grief with a goal each.

Against Mattawan, Notre Dame faced the challenge of playing on a natural grass field which caused some issues with ball control. Down 4-3 in the third quarter, middie Ethan Johnson shot a laser from 25 yards out to tie the score. It was short lived however as Mattawan came back to score the next five. Down 9-4, the Irish made it interesting by closing it to 9-7 with a minute to go but were unable to get closer. Romzick continued his stellar play with six ground balls to lead the team. Scoring for the Irish was Max Stowe (two goals, two assists) with Spencer Wittebort, Nick Pollack, Logan Currie, Johnson and Matt Gaynor all scoring a goal.
