Notre Dame Varsity Softball moved to 18-6 following a doubleheader split with Birmingham Groves.
The Irish dropped the opener 4-2 with Jordan Smith picking up the lone hit for Notre Dame. Both Irish runs were unearned coming by the way of a walk, hit batter and two Falcon errors.
The Irish bats woke up in the second game as Notre Dame collected 23 hits en route to a 20-7 win. Notre Dame was led by senior Kara Thornton who had four hits, a run and two RBI. Smith had three hits, scored four and drove in three. Elena Schwegman went three-for-six including a three-run home run, scoring three times and driving in seven. Meaghan Orloski had three hits, a run and two RBI, Sydney Newby had three hits and three runs scored and Ryan McLain had two hits, a pair of walks, scored four times and drove in a run. Smith picked up the win on the mound, yielding seven runs (four earned) while striking out six.
