Notre Dame Drops Home Match to Stoney Creek

The Notre Dame Boys Varsity Soccer team dropped a match against Stoney Creek 5-0.

The Cougars took an early 1-0 advantage three minutes into the contest but the Irish defensive line of Jacob Lanham, Andrew Marsheh, and Edmond Abboud would hold strong for the remainder of the first half, keeping Stoney Creek off the board until the final minutes of the first when the Cougars would extend their lead to 2-0 heading into the break.

“We had a combination of seven or eight freshmen and sophomores out there. It has totally been a learning curve year for us, and Stoney Creek just moves the ball really well,” Notre Dame head coach Rob Suffredini said. “We defended a lot in our defensive third, and for the most part, the team was in good form as far as holding shape, but you can only a team like that off for so long,” he added. “This game was by design for us to work on our defensive organization and see if we can handle a team with this much firepower and help us get right for districts.”

Josh Reid continued his strong play in goal for Notre Dame, finishing with nine saves  and handling numerous crosses into the box as Stoney Creek piled up 13 corner kicks in the game.
