Notre Dame Comeback Falls Short at Guerin

The Notre Dame Varsity Football team fell to Guerin Catholic (Indiana) by a score of 34-23.

The Irish capitalized on good field position to take an early 3-0 lead on a Julian Lee 21-yard field goal. However, the Golden Eagles would score two touchdowns to take a 14-3 lead late into the second quarter. Jacob Bendtsen would find the endzone on a two-yard run to cut the deficit to 14-9 before halftime but Guerin would respond with a quick score right before the break to take a 20-9 lead.

Notre Dame got the ball to begin the second half but would turn it over on downs. The Golden Eagles would score just a few plays later to go up by 19. The Irish gained momentum through their passing game and multiple personal foul penalties on Guerin Catholic and responded with a Bendtsen to Ethan Johnson 14-yard touchdown reception. After a stop on defense, the Irish scored again on a Bendtsen six-yard run to cut the Guerin lead to 28-23.

With the Golden Eagles driving in the fourth quarter, Caleb Webb would force a fumble on the one-yard line after a 60-yard run, resulting in a touch back to give the Irish the ball, but Notre Dame could not put any more points on the board.

Bendtsen finished the evening with 208 yards through the air while Johnson caught 10 passes for 105 yards. The Irish, now 5-1 on the season, return home on Friday to face Milford.
