New Records Set at Oakland County Meet

The Notre Dame Girls Swim team placed 13 th out of 32 teams at the 2017 Oakland County Championships setting three school records.

In the first event, the 200 Medley Relay team of Freshman Lindsey Creek, Senior Julia Nellis, Sophomore Rhianna Hensler and Sophomore Libby Stacey placed 9th and broke a 15-year- old school record with a time of 1:51.97. Hensler then went on to win the 100 Butterfly (55.13) and place second in the 50 Freestyle (23.76), lowering both of her previous school records as well as her D3 100 Butterfly record. As the lead leg of the 400 Freestyle Relay, Hensler also completed a 100 Freestyle in 52.46 (the 12-year-old 100 Freestyle event record is 54.10).

Nellis placed 4th in the 100 Breaststroke with a season best 1:08.16 and 13 th in the 100 Freestyle (54.68), earning her D3 State Championship qualification. Also qualifying for states in the 100 Freestyle and placing 28th was Stacey (56.68,) who placed 21st in the 50 Freestyle (25.83) as well. Rounding out the individual performances was Creek, who qualified for the state championships in the 100 Butterfly (1:03.01) and lowered her state qualifying best in the 200 Individual Medley by 3 seconds (2:19.20) placing 34th and 36th respectively.

In the 200 Freestyle Relay, Freshman Rebecca Chow-Wah, Freshman Josi Honoway, Senior Mary Yanik and SeniorSofia Pizzo teamed up to finish 20th with a time of 1:48.00. In the 400 Freestyle Relay, the team of Hensler, Stacey, Creek and Nellis dropped an astounding 7 seconds for a 15th place finish with a time of 3:44.00, narrowly missing the Notre Dame record.
