On a cold and rainy Saturday morning, the Notre Dame Boys Varsity Lacrosse team pulled out a tight win against Royal Oak Shrine, 6-4. The Irish tallied close to 40 shots on the day but due to the weather conditions and Shrine goaltending could not find the back of the net.
With Notre Dame down 4-3 late in the game, Matt Gaynor ripped one into the top of the net to tie the game. Not long after, with under three minutes to go, Gaynor found Max Stowe racing down the middle of the field for the game-winner. Stowe added a controversial insurance goal a minute later to seal the victory.
Will Caton led the way playing a great game on both ends of the field while also scoring a goal and dishing out three assists. Gaynor and Stowe each chipped in with two goals and one assist a piece.
Ethan Johnson gobbled up four ground balls to lead the team defensively while Andrew Vella, Andrew Romzick, Charlie Morris and Andrew McGhee all played good, fundamental defense in front of the net. Joey Lopez had an outstanding game in the face-off circle helping the Irish win the time of possession battle. Antonio Popp continued his solid early season play in goal by stopping 10 shots.
