Irish Top Ladywood, Advance to CHSL Final

The Notre Dame Girls Varsity Soccer team earned a 3-1 win over Livonia Ladywood to advance to the CHSL finals for the third consecutive year.  The Irish got on the board just over a minute into the game as a corner kick from Payton Williams was deflected in by Celia Gaynor.  The Blazers would tie the score at 1-1 with 12 minutes remaining in the first half on a penalty kick following an inadvertent Notre Dame hand ball in the box.  The game would remained tied until the final 15 minutes when the Irish would add 2 goals, the first by Olivia Mears (assisted by Cassidy Wiest) and the second by Gaynor (assisted by Erika Wiest).  Notre Dame ,  now 12-1-3 overall, will take on the winner of Marian and Regina on Saturday. “We’re just happy that for the last Catholic League game, we get to play on Saturday. We’ve been chatting about it being a chance to dance the last dance,” said head coach Jim Stachura. “We’re excited to play in the Catholic League final for the third year in a row.”
