Irish Top DCDS to Take District Title

In a battle of Top Ten team in Division Two, the Notre Dame Varsity Volleyball team won its 22nd district title in 26 years with a 25-20, 25-16, 25-13 win over Detroit Country Day. The final match point for the Irish came on a block by Sara Nouhan as the Irish used a solid defense to slow down the high-powered Yellowjacket offense.

Aly Borellis led Notre Dame with 12 kills, three blocks, 8 digs, three serving points, including an ace, and 18 assists. Right behind Borellis was Sophomore Sophia Sudzina, who collected 10 kills. In her first game in four weeks Bianca Giglio added five kills and four blocks, while senior Theresa Carrier matched her with five kills, three blocks and three digs.

Defensively, Olivia Kowalkowski had 11 digs, 10 serve receptions, and nine points with an ace. Josie Bloom had 10 digs, 13 serve receptions, eight points and an ace. The Irish were in control of all three sets, trailing only in the first set twice by two points and 0-1 in the final set.

Notre Dame moves on to the Regional Tournament to play Marysville at Ortonville Brandon on Tuesday.
