Irish Top Cabrini for Third Win in Four Days

The Notre Dame Hockey team won its third CHSL league game in just four days, holding on for a 2-1 win over Allen Park Cabrini to move to 8-3-1 overall and 3-0 in CHSL play.  After a scoreless opening period, the Monarchs would score in the opening minutes of the second period to take a 1-0 lead.  The Irish would answer midway through the period on a goal by Ryan Genord (assisted by Will and Danny Caton) and would grab the lead late in the period as Luke Newman snuck a backhand shot between the legs of Cabrini goalie Justin Varhol. In the third period, Notre Dame would be faced with two different 5-on-3 Cabrini powerplays, the first coming with eight minutes left to play and the second with just under two minutes remaining. The Monarchs pulled Varhol late in the game to create a 6-on-3 advantage, but Danny Caton, Matt Knill, Joey Manganiello, and goaltender Daniel Murvar (21 saves) would kill it off to help the Irish hang on.  Next up for Notre Dame is a game at New Boston Huron on Wednesday.
