The Notre Dame Varsity Football team clinched a spot in the 2017 MHSAA playoffs with a 17-0 win over Waterford Kettering, the sixth shutout for the Irish on the season.
Defense dominated the first three quarters of the game as neither team was able to put points on the board. Notre Dame recovered a fumble at their own one-yard line to stop a Captains drive in the second quarter while Kettering was able to limit the Irish to just two first half first downs.
Julian Lee got the Irish on the board with a 20-yard field goal less than a minute into the fourth quarter and Eli McLean threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Thomas Riss to extend the lead. Connor Gaeschke put the game away with a 59-yard TD run with just over two minutes to play. Gaeschke finished with 88 rushing yards and a score while McLean threw for 170 yards on the evening.
The Irish, now 6-1 on the year, head to Portland High School (also 6-1) this week.
