The Notre Dame Varsity Cross Country teams participated in the competitive Father Gabriel Richard Invitational last week at Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter. With a dry, flat course and temperatures in the mid 40’s, personal records (PR) and seasonal records (SR) were abounding. In total, there were 14 members of the girls team and six members of the boys team that set personal records on Saturday.
Eli Seitzinger was the top varsity runner for the boys with a 17:28 (SR), followed by Adam Martin 18:09 (PR), Nathan Vogel 18:36 (SR), Eric Gaynor 19:01 (SR) and Evan Wells 19:58 (SR). Tommy Joppich (PR) and Matthias Rangel also ran varsity for the Irish. James Chabot (PR) was the top JV runner.
Jenny Ohlsson continued her torrid pace with her fifth win of the season and a time of 18:42 (SR). Allie Dawiedczyk 21:21 (PR) and Maddie Monaghan 21:21 (PR) pushed in each other to personal records finishing only .4 seconds apart. Nicole Carson 21:29 (PR) had a breakout performance taking more than a minute and a half off her previous best time followed by Tess Censoni 22:43 (SR) who rounded out the scoring for the Irish. Riley Williams (PR) and Kate Stacey (SR) also ran Varsity. Mya Fromwiller (PR) was the top JV runner.
Next up for the Irish is an overnight trip to compete in the Northern Michigan Cross County Championship held at Michaywe Pines Golf Course near Gaylord. The team will leave after school, spend the night at the Hampton Inn and compete on Saturday. As a show of Catholic camaraderie, the St. Mary Catholic School Booster Club in Gaylord will be preparing a special pasta dinner for the team on Friday night to welcome Notre Dame on trip.
