The Notre Dame Varsity Softball team took part in the Almont Tournament over the weekend. The Irish started out strong, defeating Algonac 5-1. Jordan Smith picked up the win giving up an earned run on three hits while striking out three. Smith also led off the game with a solo blast on her way to a two hit performance. Lauren Koenig was had two RBI while Elena Schwegman was two-for-three with a double, run scored and RBI. In the final game of pool play the Irish fell to Bath in a four inning, time-shortened game 7-6. Kara Thornton and Schwegman scored a pair of runs and contributed and RBI each. The Irish went into bracket play as the fourth seed and faced Ubly. Notre Dame could not get their bats going and fell to the Bearcats 7-2. Smith, Thornton and Schwegman each collected a hit.
