Irish Have Strong Showing at State Final

The Notre Dame Girls Varsity Swim team finished its 2019 season at the MHSAA Division Three State Preliminary and Championship meets held at Oakland University.

In the preliminary meet, the 200 Medley Relay team of Alina Stanczak, Josi Honoway, Libby Stacey and Kasia Bennett got the day off to a strong start, placing sixth to advance to the State Finals. The 400 Free Relay of Bennett, Elizabeth Gruden, Stacey and Stanczak took 15th to also earn a State Final appearance. Stanczak would follow up her relay performances by taking 11th in the 50 Freestyle and 6th in the 100 Backstroke to earn an individual qualifications to the State Final. The 200 Free Relay of Bella Vecchio, Allison Healy, Bennett and Stacey placed 18th while Honoway took 21st in the 100 Breaststroke to barely miss out on earning a State Final spot.

Notre Dame returned five total swimmers to the MHSAA Division Three State Final meet the following day and placed 15th as a team, scoring 53 total points. The Irish started the day with a fifth place finish in the 200 Medley Relay once again led by the team of Stanczak, Honnowat, Stacey and Bennett. The 400 Free Relay team of Bennett, Gruden, Stacey and Stanczak took 13th while Stanczak took 13th in the 50 Free and placed sixth overall in the 100 Backstroke.
