Irish Get Five Set Win Over Cardinals

The Notre Dame Varsity Volleyball team ended regular season play with a five set win at Davison.

opening set was a battle with 16 ties and 11 lead changes until the Irish prevailed 32-30. In the second set, the Cardinals raced out to a 12-0 lead before a kill by Sophia Sudzina put the Irish on the board. An Irish hitting error and a kill from Theresa Carrier put the deficit at 2-13. However, the serving of Sara Nouhan, including four kills, helped to pull the Irish within two points at 11-13. Notre Dame tied the game at 14 with a kill from Emily Mohr and the Irish never trailed again on their way to a 25-21 win.

The third set was all Davison as the Irish could not find their rhythm, falling 25-13. The fourth set followed a similar pattern as the Irish hung close with 14 ties and five lead changes taking place, but Davison scored three of the last four points to pull out the 25-23 victory.

Davison won the coin toss for the final and deciding set but the Irish grabbed an early 2-0 lead before the Cardinals came back to tie and take the lead.  Davison was in control of much of the scoring until the Irish took their first lead at 15-14 on a kill by Aly Borellis.

Borellis finished the Cardinals off with another kill on the ensuing play to give the Irish the 16-14 win. For the match Borellis had 29 kills, 32 assists, seven points, four aces, five blocks and 19 digs. Sudzina and Carrier each chipped in 11 kills while Grace Wenaas had five kills and three blocks.  Mohr had five blocks, 11 digs and seven points, including two aces, to go with three kills. Nouhan had 10 points and four aces. Defensively, Olivia Kowalkowski had 34 digs, Allison Berent had 28 digs, 11 points and five aces while Josie Bloom kicked in 16 digs, 11 points and four aces. Margo Sudzina chipped in 26 assists and six points in the win.
