Hensler Takes 100 Butterfly Title, Irish Place 9th

The Notre Dame Girls Varsity Swim team took 9th out of 50 teams at the MHSAA Division III Finals held at Holland Aquatic Center. The Irish scored a school record 112 team points in the meet.

Junior Rhianna Hensler won her third 100 Butterfly state champion title, tying her DIII record from last year of 55.67. Hensler placed 2nd in the 50 Free, with a new Notre Dame record time of 23.68. Sophomore Lindsey Creek scored a 3rd place finish in the 500 Free, with another Notre Dame record time of 5:07.16. Creek also narrowly missed taking down the Notre Dame record in the 200 Free at 1:55.82, placing 12th . Freshman Alina Stanczak snagged 13th place in the 100 Back, and just missed finals with a 17th place finish in the 50 Free, but still had a personal best time at 25.13. Sophomore Josephine Honoway took 24th in the 100 Breaststroke with a personal best at 1:11.11, and Junior Libby Stacey placed 28th in the 100 Free with a personal best of 55.62.

In the relays, the team of Stanczak, Honoway, Hensler and Stacey earned a 7th place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, while the team of Hensler, Stacey, Creek and Stanczak had a Notre Dame record time of 1:39.75 and placed 6th overall in the 200 Free Relay. The 400 Free Relay team of Creek, Juniors Allison Healy, Bella Vecchio and Stacey just missed Finals, earning a 17th place finish, all swimming personal bests.

“This has been an incredible run and it is hard to believe it is done. This team just poured their hearts out all year and like all sports we had great highs and a few lows. The highs outweighed the lows tenfold! Notre Dame Prep is blessed with many talented athletes and I am fortunate enough to coach 14 of the best!“ said Coach Mark McGreevy.
