The Notre Dame Girls Varsity Soccer team picked up its first win of the 2016 season with a 1-0 win over Trenton. Celia Gaynor scored the lone goal of the game on a penalty kick with just 1:17 left in the match after a Trojan player was forced to use her hand at the goal line to prevent a goal. Gaynor stepped up and buried the ball into the left side of the net, sending the Irish to their first victory after back-to-back 1-1 draws to open the season. “We did a really good job in spots, in five and ten minute intervals where we really put them under pressure and created corner kicks and created chances in front. We were just a little bit snake bitten in front of the goal,” Notre Dame head coach Jim Stachura said. “To come out here against a good Trenton team who is always ranked and makes run in the state tournament, to come out here and defend and play as hard as we did, I’m happy.”
