Gaeschke Sets Rushing Record in Win Over Leadership

For the second time this season the Notre Dame Varsity Football team began a game only to have to finish it the following day due to weather. Like the first time, the Irish came away with a victory, this time defeating the Detroit Leadership Academy 49-20 to improve to 5-0 on the season.

Notre Dame held a 29-12 lead on Friday evening with 4:48 remaining in the third quarter when the game was called due to storms and a quick defensive stop and touchdown put the game out of reach on Saturday.

Connor Gaeschke was the story of both days for the Irish, carrying the ball 26 times for a school-record 273 yards and a school-record six touchdowns. Gaeschke scored on runs of 24, 16, 11 and 14 yards on Friday before adding two more touchdowns on Saturday, including a 68-yard score. The offensive line play and strong blocking, including seniors Nalin Fox, Antonio Popp, Connor Long and tight end Blake Bur among others helped pave the way for Gaeschke.

On defense Josh Edmonds had a first half interception for the Irish and Alex Whalen picked up a fumble recovery.

Notre Dame, ranked sixth in Division Four in the latest AP poll travels to Indiana this week to take on Guerin Catholic.
