Months of hard work combined with nearly perfect conditions at Goodells County Park helped propel the Notre Dame Prep Boys and Girls Cross Country teams to top placings at Regionals. Both wins are the first cross country regional championships in NDP history. Junior Nathan Mylenek led the boys by taking 2nd place overall with a time of 16:23, narrowly missing the top slot by a single second. While also setting a new career best time, Mylenek’s time cracks the NDP “top 15” list and ranks as the 14th fastest time in school history. Sophomore Brendan Fraser (16:51) followed with a 5th place overall finish. Other scorers for the Irish were, junior Drew Guest (21st, 17:45), senior Danny Rose (22nd, 17:47), and freshman Nico Fraser (26th, 17:56). Guest, Rose, and Nico Fraser all ran career best times. In the girls race, Lauren McGrath continued her stellar senior campaign with a 2nd place overall finish with a time of 19:51. McGrath was backed by junior Ellie Wallace (17th, 21:06), senior Hunter Williams (18th, 21:07), freshman Claire Seitzinger (32nd, 21:45), and freshman Abby Rankin (36th, 21:50). Senior Erin Hergott was 37th at 21:52. Wallace, Williams, Seitzinger, Rankin and Hergott all ran either season best or career best times. “I truly think this was a team accomplishment. These trophies belong to the entire team, not just the runners who ran today’s race. Today’s result was a product of everyone’s season long hard work and everyone’s contribution to the culture of the program,” said Coach TJ Kulick after the race. The teams will finish the season at the MHSAA State Finals on Saturday November 1 at the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan. The boys will run at 1:30 pm and the girls will run at 2:30 pm. (October 25, 2014)
