Both the Notre Dame Boys and Girls Cross Country teams became Oakland County Division II Champions for the second consecutive year by placing 1st at the championship invitational at Kensington Metro Park.
Brendan Fraser was the overall winner for the boys, out-pacing all runners in both division I and division II by finishing the race on the very difficult course in 16:00. Fraser is the first Notre Dame runner, male or female, to ever win the Oakland County race. Younger brother Niko Fraser placed 20th for the Irish, medaling and earning all county honors in the process. Freshman James Ohlsson, junior John Pieper, and sophomore Mitchell Guest rounded out the scoring for Notre Dame. Junior. Ethan Lazzara had a breakout performance in the JV race, out-pacing three of the varsity runners.
Lauren Neiheisel was the top finisher for the girls for the seventh straight race, just missing all county honors by two places. In an unusual turn of events, the girls team won the division II championship without placing a single athlete in the top 30, a real testament to quality and depth of the team. Scoring for the Irish were sophomore Lexi Case, freshman Jenny Ohlsson, sophomore Shannon Lambrecht, and junior Abby Rankin.
