The athletic department of Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy announced today that Tyler Yanik has been hired as its new head varsity wrestling coach, effective immediately. Yanik replaces Ian McClain, who has resigned to pursue other opportunities.

“We are very pleased that Tyler has agreed to take over the wrestling program at Notre Dame,” said Betty Wroubel, athletic director and assistant principal at Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy. “He’s been a real asset to the school as both a coach and a student-athlete and we look forward to him taking the wrestling program to the next level.”

Yanik, a 2012 graduate of Notre Dame Prep, has been the assistant varsity wrestling coach since 2012 and has played a number of key roles in the growth of the program at Notre Dame. He also serves as a coach on the school’s junior varsity football and JV lacrosse teams.

In 2012, Yanik was named All Academic as a member of the Fighting Irish wrestling squad and earned All League honors from the Catholic High School League in 2011. Also, in 2011 and 2012, he earned Catholic League wrestling championship titles in his weight class.

Currently a resident of Rochester, Mich., and a student in Oakland University’s School of Education and Human Services, Yanik expects to graduate with a degree in elementary education in 2018. In addition, he has completed the MHSAA Coaches Advancement Program (CAP) Level-1 program and has up-to-date CPR certification.
