Irish Take Second at Battle Creek Invite

Over the weekend the Notre Dame Varsity Volleyball team took second at the Battle Creek Lakeview tournament, which featured five teams who are state-ranked.

The Irish played strong defense all day as they defeated St. Philip, Vicksburg and Kalamazoo Central in pool play to come out the top seed overall in the morning session. The quarterfinal found the Irish up against St. Philip once again and the Irish defeated them in straight sets. In semifinal action the Irish defeated host Lakeview in straight sets to advance to the championship game against an undefeated team from Schoolcraft, currently #1 in division three. Schoolcraft defeated Notre Dame in straight sets to hand the Irish their first loss in tournament action.

Olivia Kowalkowski played outstanding defense on the day, collecting 78 digs to go with her 27 service points and 48 service receptions. Josie Bloom 32 digs, 53 serve receptions and 26 service points with five aces Aly Borellis had 42 kills and 61 service points, including 5 aces, Bianca Giglio had 31 kills and Sophia Sudzina and Theresa Carrier each had 27 kills.
