Notre Dame Splits DH With Holly

The Notre Dame Varsity Softball team split a doubleheader with Holly High School, falling in the first game 14-9 and rebounding to take the nightcap 7-2.

Lauren Koenig took the loss in the opener, yielding 14 runs on 15 hits while striking out 10. The Irish made some base running errors that took them out of innings as well as some defensive miscues that extended innings for the Bronchos. Elena Schwegman went four-for-four including a double, scored three runs, drove in two and had a stolen base. The battery of Koenig and Jordan Smith each collected a pair of hits while driving in a pair of runs each. Kara Thornton had a hit and a pair of sacrifices, scored twice and drove in two runs.

Smith quieted the Holly bats in the second game, giving up just two runs on three hits while striking out three and walking two. The Irish also made some nice defensive plays to stop potential Broncho rallies. Sydney Newby went three-for-three and drove in three runs, including the game-winner). Smith collected a pair of hits and drove in one, Thornton went one-for-one, had a sacrifice and scored twice and Meaghan Orloski went one-for-two, scored twice and collected two RBI.
