11 Irish Athletes Complete at State Finals

At Zeeland High School in Zeeland, 11 Notre Dame athletes competed at the MHSAA Division 2 Track and Field State Finals.

Junior Lauren Neiheisel claimed her second consecutive all-state nod with a fourth place finish in the 1600m run in 5:06.76.  Later in the day, Neiheisel would also compete in the 800m run, finishing 18th in 2:23.59.  Last year, Neiheisel was all-state in the 800m run and is now an all-stater in two different track events.

Senior Brendan Fraser wrapped up his high school career, finishing 13th in the 3200m run in 9:40.68.  Fraser, who worked hard to get back on the track this spring after horrific car accident over the winter, leaves Notre Dame as the school record holder in the 3200m run and 5K in cross country, a three time all-stater in cross country, and numerous individual championships in invitational, regional, and county events.

Two other seniors participated in their last high school events at the Finals.  John Paul Terzano, the school record holder in the discus, threw the disc 135’ 10”, good for 15th overall, and Andrew Blocki ran in the 100m dash, placing 21st in 11.65.

Others competing in the Finals included junior Niko Fraser in the 3200m run (14th, 9:41.83), sophomore Lexi Case in the 800m run (23rd, 2:28.18), freshman James Ohlsson in the 1600m run (16th, 4:29.94), junior Destiny Sandle in the shot put (25th, 31’ 6.5”), and freshman Jennifer Ohlsson in the 3200m run (20th, 11:53.91). In relays, the girls 4x800m team consisting of Case, junior Claire Seitzinger, junior Abby Rankin, and Ohlsson ran their best time of the season in 10:12.52, finishing in 24th place.
